IN a bid to promote one of the more popular Holy Week activities in the environs of Metro Manila, the Department of Tourism has urged residents of the metropolis to go to Pampanga and witness the reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.
DoT Central Luzon regional director Ronaldo Tiotuico said the reenactment will be held at noon of April 14 at Barangay San Pedro Cutud in the City of San Fernando.
The event starts with the traditional Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross, where local residents pray at 14 stations spread toward a man-made “hill” at Barangay San Pedro Cutud, which is called Golgotha.
Tiotuico said a similar event will also take place in Barangay Lourdes Northwest in Angeles City where five penitents will also be crucified at 2 p.m. after a street presentation will depict the arrest of Jesus of Nazareth at 12 noon.
Apart from the spiritual activities, Tiotuico said DoT regional office have also lined up other activities aimed at luring foreign and local tourists to the province.
Tiotuico said there will be a climb up Mt. Pinatubo on April 22 to be led by Gov. Mark Lapid. About 150 people are set to join the Pinatubo trek which will start in Porac, Pampanga.
The group will walk the length of the Mancatia River streambed on their way to the magnificent waterfall where they will be treated to a refreshing dip in its cool springs.
In Iba, Zambales, Gov. Vicente Magsaysay will lead thousands of guests to the province’s annual “Dinamulag Festival” on April 26 to 29, a thanksgiving festival for the mango harvest.
Among the activities are a bikini contest, the annual Binibining Zambales, street dancing, beach Olympics and bancathon.
In San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, residents will also stage their fiesta on April 23 where participants will hold a parade wearing costumes depicting onions. The city is known as the country’s onion capital.
