by Fryan E. Abkilan

SURIGAO DEL NORTE -– The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (Solidarity Center) and the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines and its various partners under its special project entitled “Improving Community Response Against Trafficking in Persons Project (Anti-Trafficking Project 2)” will conduct the Consultation/Coordination Meeting with Anti-Trafficking Partners on July 5, 2006.

This follow up initiative, funded from a grant provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is a community-focused project aimed at strengthening earlier efforts and responses against persons’ trafficking. Proposed project interventions are particularly focused in the province of Surigao del Norte and other eleven priority areas identified as sending, training, transit or destination areas for trafficking victims. This program include: NCR, Laguna, Cavite, Bataan, Subic, Samar/Leyte, Cebu, Davao, General Santos City, Zamboanga City, plus Negros and Bohol.

The activity also aims to present and discuss the terms of reference of the Anti-Trafficking Project 2 and examine developments on anti-trafficking interventions of the different local anti-trafficking partners involved in the campaign. It also seeks to develop preliminary action plans for accelerating response against trafficking in persons.

Some 30 participants composed of government advocates, women’s groups, youth partners and partners including labor/workers representatives in the province are expected to attend the said forum. (PIA Surigao del Norte)
