Nominations for the 8th edition of the Philippine Web Awards (PWA) are now open, officially ushering in the annual event that honors the best Filipino-created Websites and the individuals and teams behind them. Together with the start of nominations, event organizer Media G8way Corp. is launching the official PWA Web site (www.philippinewebawards.com) where all pertinent information on the yearly affair could be accessed.
"Preparations are ongoing for the 8th Philippine Web Awards," said Malou Babia-Macatangay, overall chairperson of the 8th PWA, which will have 19 categories this year. These include Arts and Portfolio, Banking and Finance, Celebrities and Personalities, Community and Portal, Corporate, e-Commerce, e-Government, eLearning, Entertainment, e-Services, e-Travel, Home and Living, Magazines and Zines, News, Organizations, Personal, Recreation, Schools and SMEs.
To officially become a PWA nominee, entries must pay a fee of R2,500, or $45, for all categories they are nominated in except the Organizations and Personal categories where the entry fee is R250, or $5. For certain categories, MGC requires participants to provide a test or demo account (username and password) to allow the judges to evaluate the site thoroughly.
Entry fees can be paid through PWA’s designated bank account, or directly at the PWA office located at the 3rd Floor, Eurovilla II, Rufino St. Legaspi Village, Makati City.
From the officially nominated sites, 10 will be chosen as semifinalists for each category. The People’s Choice awards and the Most Popular Site award will be selected from these semifinalists who have passed the standards set by the PWA. During the pre-finals, the judges will choose the five finalists for each category who will vie for the Best Website plum during the awards night on Nov. 18 at the Meralco Theatre in Ortigas, Pasig City.
A highlight of this year’s PWA is the "Hall of Fame Award" which will recognize sites that have garnered five awards in the seven editions of the PWA.
"The Hall of Fame Award will open the door to new participants in the PWA," Macatangay pointed out. "Once a site has received the award, it would no longer be eligible as a finalist. We could then tap them to be our partners or to be judges in the future editions of the event."
